Visiting Lake Tahoe in California

It sits at over 6,000 feet in elevation and spans nearly 200 square miles. Along its shores, visitors can enjoy miles of sandy beaches, as well as a plethora of activities, such as surfing, boating, swimming, paddle-boarding, beachcombing, hiking, and winter sports in the off-season. There is truly something for everyone, which makes this an excellent vacation choice for the whole family. If you are visiting Lake Tahoe in your RV, then you can expect to have a comfortable space to return to at the end of each day. Because the area is so popular among RVers and campers, there are many campgrounds to choose from. These are just some of the more popular choices, as well as information about each park.

1. Tahoe Valley RV Resort

South Lake Tahoe is a small town along the southern section of Lake Tahoe, on the California side. Here, you can find plenty of opportunities for hiking, fishing, shopping, and generally enjoying the beauty of the area. Tahoe Valley RV Resort is an awesome place to camp if you are looking for a resort experience. This Thousand Trails campground features deluxe sites with full hookups and many amenities. These include a clubhouse, a pool, a store, a dog park, a playground, and several outdoor gaming areas, such as volleyball, a pickleball court, a basketball court, horseshoes, and a tennis court. No matter what you have planned for your Lake Tahoe vacation, Tahoe Valley RV Resort is the perfect place to come back to your RV and relax after a long day.

2. City of Lake Tahoe Campground

The City of Lake Tahoe Campground is located right in the heart of the city, within close walking distance to many shops, restaurants, and activities. The campground itself is rather standard, offering full hookups at a decent price, as well as picnic tables and fire rings at each site and a bathroom/shower house. This is the perfect campground for someone wanting the convenient proximity to the city, as well as an affordable rate.

3. Meeks Bay Campground

Just about thirty minutes north of the city of South Lake Tahoe, we find Meeks Bay Campground. This small national forest campground is within walking distance of the beautiful Meeks Bay and provides plenty of solitude and serenity. There are no hookups or amenities, and it is about twenty minutes from the next big town. This is the perfect choice for someone looking for a more natural and peaceful experience.

4. William Kent Campground

Just south of Tahoe City, on the west side of Lake Tahoe, we can findWilliam Kent Campground. Similar to Meeks Bay Campground, this option is in close proximity to Lake Tahoe, providing plenty of options for activities and recreation. However, there are no hookups or amenities available, so campers will need to keep this in mind. Still, the proximity to nearby Tahoe City and to the lake make this one another great choice.

5. Coachland RV Park

Our final recommendation for the area is Coachland RV Park. While further from Lake Tahoe than the other choices, this campground is in close proximity to the town of Truckee and has a wide range of amenities offered. In addition, it is still only twenty minutes from the lake, allowing convenient access to all sorts of recreation. The campground itself offers a fitness center, a clubhouse, a dog park, and an event center. Nearby, the historic town of Truckee offers plenty of restaurants and shopping opportunities to enjoy, as well. The northern side of the lake also happens to be a bit less popular than the South Lake Tahoe area, so this may be the best choice for those who like to enjoy a bit more peace and quiet.
