We are generally very flexible on arrival times, but please keep us updated. Private suburban home. STEEP drive and crowned street. This creates a deep dip which can cause RVs with rear overhangs to scrape. Maximum 1M/3Ft. rear overhang, please! (Don't ask how we know this!) Most suited to Class B vans or high ground clearance expedition vehicles. You may be able to use leveling blocks bridge the gap for conventional (low) RV's. English, French, Spanish, and limited German spoken. NOTE: Washington is famous as a Malarial swamp! From May to September you may encounter: -- Warm, sunny weather with highs between 90F/30C and 100F/38C. -- 100% humidity and tropical rains. -- Swarms of "Tiger" (a form of Aedes albopictus) mosquitos. They are very aggressive and attack all day, not just at dusk. Suggested Local Attractions: Washington is a Capitol City! (tm) 30 minute walk to Metro, 10 minutes to bus lines, bike to the Metro or to the downtown. Beyond the Mall and its museums, don't overlook suburban sights like Mount Vernon (visit the distillery) and Udvar-Hazy, both easy drives with RV parking. DC/Mall Parking: The short answer is "impossible." That said, there are a few commercial lots that will accommodate RV's. This site may be helpful: https://dcparking.org/national-mall/ Specifically mentioned: -- Commercial Lot behind Union Station - will let you purchase multiple spaces. -- National Mall Parking at the Tidal Basin - 1540 Maine Ave SW, Washington, DC 20024 (Look up on Google.) Great base for bicycle exploration. We are within ten minutes of the Custis Bicycle Trail that goes into the District and continues on to Mount Vernon or 50 miles out to Purcellville. Download bicycle and Metro maps here: https://arlingtontransportationpartners.com/services/brochure-services/ Note: Bicycles are not permitted in Arlington Cemetery. 15 minute walk: Lebanese, Thai, American Bistro, Ice Cream, Coffee, Drug Store, Grocery, Italian Store, Hardware, Barbers, Post Office, Sunday Farmer's market (Good meat, eggs, vegetables, etc.). 1 mile walk/bike/drive: Thai, Japanese, Gourmet Chinese, Mexican, Wood oven pizza, Thai Ice Cream, Starbucks, Italian, Drug Store, Pet Store, Auto Parts, 2 Supermarkets, Parcel Shipping. Under 1.5 miles: (Bike or drive) Afghan, Bangladeshi, Caribbean Chicken/Bolivian, BBQ, Tacos, Turkish, Diner. The Lebanese is the original Lebanese Taverna, the Mexican consistently wins the "Best Margarita in DC," the Afghan is great, and the Chinese is run by the former Chef at the Chinese Embassy. BBQ is rated in the "top ten for DC" and has great brisket. Turkish is very good and an interesting change from more common Greek/Lebanese. Newly opened Charga Grill just won top place in a newspaper review. Great food is not a problem. There is a superb RV repair facility about one hour away, near the junction of I-81 and I-66. Highly, highly recommended: https://www.rvservicellc.com/ Also good commercial RV dealer with decent service department in Manassas: https://www.restlesswheels.com/ And, of course, Camping World.

this was our first stay at a Boondockers and it was perfect. Fred got us setup quickly and he was very an excellent host and tour guide. He pointed out all the local restaurants and shopping areas and explained the bike trails into Washington. We never had to move the van. Fred has a true overlander camper and has real world knowledge of the LIFEPO4 batteries and how to build and install them. He also provided emergency refrigeration support when our fridge died in our van. Would highly recommend this location for anyone visiting Washington. Make sure Fred guides you up the driveway as the angle is steep as the start and you don't want to hit bottom.

We stayed at the Arlington Driveway for a Friday & Saturday night in May and were so grateful for the hospitality. The hosts were welcoming & provided us with great information on traveling to DC*, directions, and even let us borrow a bike lock. This was a safe haven to call home for the weekend - highly recommend! Due to weather and time, we decided to Uber to & from the metro DC area and it cost about $15-20 one way (unless there were price surges). This was easy & worked for us. Fred recommended cycling to the city and we hope to visit again to try this out!
