Our location is 2 miles south of I-40 off exit 121. Hickory is in the foothills of western North Carolina, and is about 1 hour east of Asheville, 1 hour west of Winston-Salem, 1 hour north of Charlotte and 1 hour south of Boone, NC. Site is beside a barn and is level. There are pickle ball courts about 10 minutes from our home so bring your paddles and balls! We are having a water shortage in our area due to the drought, so we are not allowing water hookup at this time. However, we can bring water to you in 5 gallon increments if needed from our home, which is on a different well. Please arrive with a full tank of fresh water. After hosting well over 50 guests in only 1-1/2 years we have recently felt a need to change our host site. For our former guests, I deeply apologize and hope you will return regardless your rig size and status, and for everyone else I hope you will understand. Preference will be given to guests that are, or have been, Boondockers Welcome HOSTS. We strongly support fellow CAMPERS that make this wonderful site work! Not saying we won’t host a full-time RVer, but we have recently had several “guests” (all full time RVers wanting FREE everything to avoid a mortgage) who wanted to treat us like an RV park and be rude and complain. If this is your idea of being a guest, PLEASE just keep on going down the road! There are 2 Wal-marts in the area that allow overnight parking. Suggested Local Attractions: Pickle Ball courts nearby (i.e. 10 min drive).Easy access to the mountains of NC via Hwy 321 and Hwy 181, and I-40 east and west.

House Rules

READ ALL OF THE RULES. - ours and the Boondockers Welcome site before requesting this location. Preference will be given to fellow Boondockers Welcome HOSTS. Fellow hosts are what make this whole thing work! Be respectful of our property and those nearby. Let us know exactly when you are arriving. This allows us to also plan our day and not sit around all day waiting. If you need to change your expected ETA please give us a call. This means calling when 15 minutes prior to arrival for specific instructions on parking! THIS IS VERY IMPORTANT! ABSOLUTELY NO SMOKING ON PREMISES!! NO EXCEPTIONS! Also, no grills that sit on the ground, and if a grill is used it must be located in front of your camper (pasture side, not barn side). This site is beside where round bale hay is stored and a grass fire could ignite the hay and there would be no way to extinguish the fire.

Location

Access Road Conditions: Access is 1/4 mile up a well maintained gravel lane that only is on a dead end with only 1 house beyond the camp site and is very quiet and peaceful. There is plenty of room to pull in, back up and turn around if needed. The site is a pull-through. It is on a hill next to a large 2 story barn with 18’ lean to’s with storage for round bale hay, and overlooks a horse pasture. The farm is 25 acres and adjoins another 100 acres of wooded walking/ horseback riding trails that go down to a river. Hence the reason we ask for a 10-15 call prior to arrival…. If you are in an RV the size of a tour bus you may have trouble making the turn off the road because the back end may drag on the roadway. We have negotiated this driveway for almost 40 years with large horse trailers, dovetail gooseneck trailers and campers and know how to safely drive across the grade and will be glad to make suggestions for all of you “flat landers”. If you choose to use the drive-through (rather than backing in) the turn off the gravel road is tight. We can help…. You may also experience problems leaving when turning on to the paved road with bottoming out. Again, we can explain how to do this safely if your ego will allow. Tow Vehicle Parking Details: There is ample room both in front or behind your camper to park another vehicle. Call Bill 828-310-7002 with questions or directions

I had a great stay here. The farm is just off the highway and was very quiet. I managed to stay hooked up which saved me some hassle in the morning. The driveway was steep, but I didn't have any trouble. The host was great in communicating with me and met me to guide me to my spot! Electricity was great too!

We loved our stay here. It is peaceful and the the site is a sun trap with views of a beautiful meadow/horse paddock with surrounding trees. We walked our dog in the woods and it was a lovely place to recharge after travelling. Bill and his wife have taken a lot of trouble to make the stay comfortable with provision of electricity/ water and even a grill if you wanted them. Bill even collected us from the gate on arrival. We highly recommend the site and the hosts. Thank you for great hospitality.
