We only have the street to park in, a fairly wide street with very little traffic. You will be right beside our back yard. Suggested Local Attractions:We are not far from the Great Sand Dunes National Park. We have several hot springs in the area also. We have a hidden gem, Penitente Canyon. World renowned rock climbing. History buffs will relish the American Indian and Spanish history in the area. The canyon got its name from Los Hermanos Penitentes, a Spanish religious sect that favored Pentinente Canyon for its solitude in the 1880s. When you visit to capture a bit of your own solace and spirituality, don’t miss the Virgin of Guadalupe painted high on a canyon wall and the ruts of ox carts that remain from the days when the Old Spanish Trail traversed the area. The ruts are so deep, you can stand in them up to your knees!

We parked our van at the curb and felt very comfortable and safe ! Susie gave us ideas for many things to do in the Monte vista area , as well as restaurants and shops to visit . We were just 7 miles from the Monte vista wildlife refuge so we were able to experience the sand hill crane migration ! We saw hundreds of them take off from the water, and land in various fields where they landed and danced . We also visited Pentinente Canyon, which Susie also recommended , and the sand dunes ! We will be back to explore more !!!

Sue & David welcomed me as if i was an old friend. We exchanged stories for hours! Monte Vista is surrounded by wildlife refuges supporting so many migrating birds- And the Great Sand Dunes National Park is right on the way there.

I had the very best time with S and D. I hung with them, gardened with them and enjoyed the best pizza and root beer floats with them. I gained two friends this week and I couldn’t be happier Visit these wonderful people and S’s gardens.

I can’t imagine a better stopover than one with these two people. It felt like a stay with some of my best friends. I parked at the curb in front of their house, in a very quiet little neighborhood, for two nights. They had power available, and I took advantage of it the second night. Susie is full of entertaining stories and she’s a great cook! Dick is a quiet, thoughtful man who keeps things on track. The garden is astounding. The two of them are a wealth of information about the area and showed me so many cool things nearby, that now I want to visit again. Seriously - if the whole was full of people like this, it would be a paradise.

Want to thank them for all the help they were when we have vehicle trouble. They went beyond expectations to make sure we were able to get our vehicle fiixed, including towing us over 150+ miles to destination and service garage. They were amazing people. Thank again, Susan & Dick.
