We bought a piece of property in Northeast Alabama and now are hosting again. We are on about eight acres in an agricultural/rural area on Sand Mountain. It's fairly level ground, and the property has some trees, so caution is advised. We're working to get electricity to the campsite area. We can offer water to fill your tank. Propane refill is about a ten-minute drive. Well behaved, leashed (& picked up after) pets are welcome. Suggested Local Attractions:We're located near some amazing State Parks -- Desoto SP in Fort Payne, AL, and Cloudland Canyon SP in Rising Fawn, GA. Some nearby attractions are - Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain, Ruby Falls, Desoto Falls, Little River Canyon Falls, Mushroom Rock, a Tri-State Marker (AL-TN-GA), and Nickajack Cave, where you can watch the bats emerge every night after sunset (between late April and September).

Location

Access Road Conditions: The road to our property is good. There are some roads nearby that aren't RV friendly (we bottomed out once). Please contact us as to the direction from which you're arriving. Once you enter our driveway, there is one turn (we're working to widen) that would limit the size rig due to the turn radius. We've taken our 32' RV in there with no issues. Our friends towed their 27' travel trailer in there, also with no issues. We're here to assist at this point. After making that turn, there are approximately 3+ acres in which to maneuver provided the ground is dry. Tow Vehicle Parking Details: Next to your rig

Retired almost eight years, love music, camping, and meeting new friends. Details: Penny retired after 31+ years with the US Postal Service. Plays music & sings, loves cooking, camping & life. Mike is a retired A/C & electrical contractor, an award-winning mandolin player, and plays many other instruments. He likes farming, and the best part of farming is eating whatever Penny cooks! We've traveled to many music festivals, lived a short while on our sailboat, and we enjoy volunteering. It's a great way to be a part of festivals if we're not playing ourselves. In April, 2018, we sold our house went full time. We bought a piece of property in Northeast Alabama, and now plan are hosting again. We're located near some amazing State Parks -- Desoto State Park in Fort Payne, AL, and Cloudland Canyon State Park in Rising Fawn, GA. Some nearby attractions are - Chattanooga, Lookout Mountain, Ruby Falls, Desoto Falls, Little River Canyon Falls, Mushroom Rock. Home Town: Bryant, Alabama Favorite Boondocking Locations: Since we retired, we were able to spend seven+ months traveling to Alaska for the summer. of 2016. We took the opportunity to spend several nights with Boondockers Welcome members. They were all enjoyable, but two that stood out were a grain farm in KS, and one near the best BBQ in TX. Outside of Boondockers Welcome, we had folks host us in Driftwood TX (five-day party with musicians from the Austin area), and Homer AK, where we were lucky enough to stay overlooking Homer Marina. We also spent four days at Peterson Lake in Alaska. Skills or Expertise to Share: Being an electrical contractor, and after setting up solar on our RV, Mike can offer wisdom and advice if this is something of interest to you. We also play music.

This site off the beaten path nestles you comfortably in a mountain top oasis, surrounded by woods, horse pasture and pond. Mike and Penny are experienced campers and that translates into being excellent hosts. They anticipated our needs even before we arrived and had everything ready for us. They are also accomplished musicians and brought in some of their picking friends for a wonderful afternoon of music. Access to the property is good for campers 30 feet or less as they require. This place is a gem. We expect to return.

I just discovered that I somehow posted my review of Mike and Penny's to a different host -- ugh!! Sincere apologies to the two of them, as this was one our favorite stays and they were fantastic hosts!! We read all of the instructions but somehow overlooked letting them know our ETA, hence they weren't on standby to meet us so our GPS took us to the wrong spot... completely embarrassing but Mike saw us and graciously led us to their property even though be was in the middle of an errand. We were given a few parking options with pros and cons of each, which was great. Our pup loved the spot and appreciated pets from both Mike and Penny, who had helpful recommendations of hiking in Cloud Canyon SP (which was fantastic). Penny let us harvest some greens and basil from the garden, and Mike delivered a fire pit, kindling, and firewood, which he laid out so it just needed to be lit! Peaceful location, we slept soundly and had brief chat with Mike in the morning before departure. They're both interesting to talk to and our only regret was that we didn't get to hear them play their instruments! Thanks to Mike for the ukulele tips, too...play some each day, he said. I plan to start that at some point 😁

Could not ask for better hosts. Gave us important tips over the phone to find their place. Great travel stories. Verizon was 3 bars boosted at their house, good for our needs. Very experienced travelers. Very pretty area and very different than the Alabama you see along I-10. Thank you.

Mike + Penny go above and beyond to make their guests feel at home! I am a Writing Coach who works remotely, so I texted Mike about the connectivity in their small town before arriving. He went so far as to call me, offer their home wifi and even invite me to a Fall Festival he and Penny were volunteering at that same day. i joined them at the gorgeous Cloudland Canyon State Park nearby (highly recommend) and even went on a hay ride! Very kind hosts and a quiet, country stay atop a mountain. Thanks for your hospitality!
