House Rules

Please arrive before dark. No generators or music/noise after 10 pm please out of consideration for our neighbors. You'll actually be parked closer to them than to our house (which is far enough away that we can't offer hookups - sorry).

Location

Access Road Conditions: You may be able to pull through but it will depend on your rig, the time of year, and whether we need access to the parking area for other vehicles. Tall fifth wheels or Class A motorhomes need to beware of a few low-hanging branches in the parking area. They can certainly be avoided. Tow Vehicle Parking Details: If your rig is longer than 25 feet, you may need to disconnect and park your tow vehicle beside the RV or on the street.

Retired couple - we love hiking, cycling, pretty scenery, good weather. Details: We, Randy and Marianne, are retired and try to travel on extended trips as often as we can. We started traveling this way in our late 40's and have learned to travel frugally, we don't need hookups, and often not even a campground - just someplace quiet, level, and safe to park and sleep for the night. If you're willing to offer us a spot on your property when we're passing through your area, we will be very grateful. We host too, so will happily return the favor. On our trips, we usually like to take our time and explore any natural attractions along the way. We love hiking and carry an inflatable two-man kayak with us. We always appreciate advice from locals about nearby scenic places, a great day-hike, a place to launch the kayak, or advice on the best local stops for supplies and fuel. Our class B (Roadtrek) motorhome regularly takes us on magical adventures all across this beautiful continent. We're Canadian but most of our boondocking has been on National Forest and BLM land in the southwestern US. We don't have a generator, slide-outs, or automatic levelers, and have learned to live without an electric hookup (unless the temperatures are extreme). We are social but also self-reliant. We appreciate any local advice but certainly don't expect you to become our tour guide or spend a lot of time with us. The main reason we're on Boondockers Welcome (aside from being the co-founder of the platform with my amazing daughter, Anna :-)) is to add variety to our travels. Meeting local people is as much the reason we travel as seeing the sights. Of course, we also love having friendly, interesting, free places to stay for a night or two on route to our next destination. We don't mind staying in Walmart parking lots but much prefer this and meeting fellow members - wonderful people like you - along the way. Home Town: Elora, Ontario, Canada Favorite Boondocking Locations: Utah - the scenery is just the best and there's so much public land that finding a great scenic spot is never a problem. Skills or Expertise to Share: About us: We have tons of information to share about our own trips and boondocking (outside of the BW platform). About me (Marianne): Before I became a web developer, I worked in hospitality - hotel/restaurant management. I self-published a series of ebooks, and most recently (during the pandemic) returned to an old hobby - painting. About Randy: He knows a little bit about a lot of things - just enough to be dangerous. That's a joke but he really does - ask him anything and he may be able to help you. He does most of our own basic mechanics and might be willing to talk to you about that but won't work on your vehicle (in case he screws it up). He plays guitar (quite well) but shies away from playing in front of people, so don't ask for that either. He's actually far from shy in other respects. In fact, he's extremely sociable. And, as you might guess, he has no clue that I'm posting this about him but, when he finds out, he'll be okay with it.

Nice place for the night, right in the of Elora. Short walk to the gorge and the heart of town. Friendly hostess that lets us stay despite her busy schedule. We had a good time in Elora!

Marianne came to greet me upon my arrival, which is always nice. She directed me to the parking spot, which is on the corner of the corner lot, so easy drive in and drive out. The location is excellent. I walked, at a leisurely pace as I have a small dog and she wanted to sniff everything, and it took us only about 10 minutes to walk into downtown Elora....which is SUCH a pretty town! Peaceful neighbourhood despite being on a corner lot. I would recommend this property and Hosts for you next stay in the area.

If you read Marianne & Randy's Profile, you will learn that they are committed RVers & have been for years. When you meet them, you will know it for sure. Plus, these two are fun, enthusiastic, knowledgeable and sharing people. We very much enjoyed our three or four extended conversations with them, including an evening visit on their patio. They are very welcoming to their visitors, but won't overwhelm you, because they have their own active lives. They provide good information on local opportunities of all varieties. We used the resource materials they provided to our advantage. Shady pull thru parking, easy walking or biking distance to a vibrant downtown for ample dining, shopping and entertainment opportunities, and lots of outdoor activities also. PS - don't be concerned about the low hanging branches.

We were thrilled to finally get to meet Randy & Marianne, the Founder of Boondockers Welcome & the author of six travel guides, which we have used & loved. Somehow I remembered that they lived in Elora & invited myself for a visit. They were gracious enough to oblige me & invited us to join them for Happy Hour. We really enjoyed our conversation with them. Marianne invited us to stay a third night & let us know that it was okay to linger on their property. They were thoughtful Hosts. Elora was a surprise, that we would have never know about, if we hadn’t wanted to meet Marianne & Randy. It is on the list of the “Top Ten Prettiest Villages in Canada”. It is full of historical buildings & houses, galleries, shops and restaurants. Exactly the type of place that we like to visit.
