West Columbia is a quiet small town with decent amenities. A hub of early Texas settlement, it brags about being the first capital of the state. The Varner Hogg Plantation State Historical Location is a popular destination. The Brazos Bend State Park is a half-hour away with interesting swampy landscapes, real alligators, and other wildlife. We are within an hour of Surfside Beach, Houston, and Galveston.

Thank you so much, David! For allowing me to stay with you and for helping me get settled in when I arrived. I really appreciate it, and I will try to get a postcard out to you one of these days! 😊

Great chat with David. He greeted us when we arrived and listened to our travel tales. David and his wife are well traveled and he shared some great spots to check out as we pass through Texas. We were leaving early and David came out to send us off. Thanks so much for a quite nights rest.
