Wanna stay away from the city and all the noise? Come stay at our small working ranch for a reprieve from the road. We live on a small 20-ranch with a few animals and nice views. We are just 15 minutes outside of Bakersfield proper. You may bring a dog as long as it is kept on a leash. We have dogs also and will need to coordinate doggie greetings. Dogs may not be off leash as they often will chase the livestock. Our ranch has a miniature donkey, horses, chickens, etc. The ranch is set off a quiet country road with gentle rolling hills. The homesteaders in this area all have a minimum of 20 acres. Our nearest neighbor is a quarter mile away. On most days, there is a view of the mountains to the East. The sunrises are beautiful! If you love animals or being in the foothills, this is a great, peaceful spot. Beware, you may be awakened to the sounds of a rooster crowing, a cow mooing or a donkey braying in the morning. :) We sell fresh chicken eggs if you are interested in purchasing these during your stay Suggested Local Attractions: Bakersfield is a medium-sized friendly community. We live just North of town (about 10 miles). One local attraction is visiting the Buck Owens Crystal Palace. This is a country western dinner and a show place with lots of country music memorabilia. We are also known for our Basque food, which is very unique to the United States. Kern County has a large Basque community and we always encourage visitors to eat at one of our many Basque restaurants. There are lots of outdoor attractions in close proximity to Bakersfield (45 - 60 minutes) which we can suggest to you when you stay with us.

House Rules

Keep dogs leashed - they can be on a long leash and there are places they can be walked; pick up doggie waste please! If your dog is caught harassing or chasing livestock you will be asked to leave. You may use our trash bin for your trash as space allows. No smoking or generators on property - the fire danger can be high in the summer Sing and play your guitar (if you can)!!! Do not open the gates to visit the animals unless the hostess is with you (this is very tempting) Children are okay as long as they are supervised at all times and are kept away from the animals unless the hostess is with you (again.... tempting but please wait for the hostess) For winter stays and when the fire danger is very low, you may request to run the generator and/or BBQ. Sorry, no BBQ or generator when the grass is brown. During the week, host/hostess contact may be minimal if we are working. During the weekends, we are likely to want to BBQ with you, show you the animals, etc.

Location

Access Road Conditions: You must travel 2 miles on a dirt road to get to the property. This road is traveled already by homeowner RVers, with rigs of various sizes with no issues. On the property, you must be able to back out of the available space. You will need to make sure you do not hit a water faucet, which you can easily avoid with a spotter or if you are a good backer-upper. The spigot is highly visible and surrounded by a large metal trough Tow Vehicle Parking Details: Tow vehicle parking is available next to rig or in other close proximity spots

Hardworking, conservative Details: We are conservative, hardworking people who are blessed with a small ranch. We enjoy working on the ranch, cooking, and playing with our animals. We travel when we can, but we're currently focused on saving up for retirement so we can become full-time RVers some day.

Originally we were going to stay for 2 nights, but a big rain and wind storm pasted thru. That made the dirt road a bit muddy and slippery on the hills. The host allowed us to stay until the road became passable. Thankfully the sun came out and dried the road so it only took an extra day. The host also brought us some delicious home-baked treats! We enjoyed visiting the horses and miniature donkey. They are very friendly and like attention. Outside of a rain storm, the road is quite passable. There is some washboard so slow driving is necessary at times. The next time we're visiting in this area we will definitely come here again.

Lisa was great with communication and super friendly. Parking was a breeze on an upper pad next to the horses and donkey. We would definitely stay here again.
