Nelson is a gem of a city and offers many attractions and activities in all seasons. What makes it special is the combination of a spectacular natural environment (mountains and lake), heritage buildings, interesting people, and quirky culture scene. It’s a pretty unique package for a small town in western Canada! It’s well-known as a great place for skiing, hiking, mountain-biking and boating. The fishing can be great, but only sometimes. Our home is located just outside city limits. It’s a 4-minute drive, or half-hour walk to downtown. While the city is close, this is a thoroughly rural location. We’re on a north-facing slope that’s green and lush with deciduous vegetation. The properties has garden areas of all kinds. If you’re a gardener, I’d love to chat! Depending on the season, there’s usually some garden-fresh produce we’d be happy to share. From the campsite, you can see the city lights twinkling. The spot is well below the road and there are trees and bushes that keep the site private. Suggested Local Attractions:Downtown Nelson Kootenay Lake - Lakeside Park Kokanee Creek Park - especially for fish spawning in August Kokanee Glacier Park - for amazing hiking and fun fishing Whitewater Ski Resort - for powder skiing Morning Mountain - mountain biking just a few km down the road Great restaurants! Excellent breweries and brewpubs, all recommended! Farmers Market on Summer Saturdays (Cottonwood Park) and Wednesdays (downtown). Usually late May to early October

House Rules

No generators or loud music. We have large dogs in our fenced yard. This is their place first. They will likely bark. Please don’t let your dogs annoy them, walk them on the far part of the property. Off leash dogs are allowed on some parts of the acreage, away from the house. It’s your responsibility to make sure they don’t trespass on the neighbour’s place (partially fenced). No smoking. Our summers are dry and it’s not worth the risk. Same for campfires.

Location

Access Road Conditions: This would be best for a camper-van or truck and camper. Best for non-towed setups, but if you’re skilled, a smaller trailer can work. Pull-in camping spot midway off a long, gravel, down-slope driveway. You can pick whichever side of the driveway suits you best. Right side is gravel and level with city views-usually the first choice. Left side is grassy, not perfectly level - watch out for swampy spots in wet weather. We often keep our boat there. Driveway to the camping spot is of moderate grade, but steep where it continues to the house. It’s best to park on the street first, have a look at the camping spot and driveway, and figure out the best plan for you. It’s tight to turn around at the house so don’t take a big rig all the way down! If there is any ice or snow, be very sure of your traction before committing. I don’t know much about slide-outs but there are some trees on the downhill side that May limit the width. Tow Vehicle Parking Details: Tow vehicle can park on the flat area on the other side of the driveway from the camping spot. There is also a wide spot to pull off the street and park at the top of the driveway.

Curious about the RV lifestyle Details: We’re fifty-somethings who are getting ready for retirement in a few years. I’m sure travelling will be in our future! We both love the outdoors and enjoy getting out and about in the local backcountry, summer and winter. At home, we enjoy the rural life-style and freedom right next to town. The gardens are lush and jungly (aka unweeded) and definitely more than is needed. The dogs are a big part of our life and it’s their home just as much (if not more) than ours. Home Town: Nelson, BC Favorite Boondocking Locations: Anywhere in BC Southwest USA Looking to explore far and wide in a couple of years! Skills or Expertise to Share: Between the two of us: gardening, fishing, carpentry, emergency medical, dog community, hiking, hunting, kayaking, small boats, trail-running, downhill skiing, Nordic skiing, local dining spots, native plants and berries

Was accommodating even though I cancelled by accident. It gets hard to manage all these stays sometimes! Thanks again.

This spot is great as it is located just outside Nelson in a rural area. Very quiet at night. It was perfect for our little VW bus. Thanks again!

The place is as described in Boondocker. The parking is not easy acces. We have 21 feet and we had to think about our way in and out. Our host was very friendly and kind.

A quiet spot and hosts were great at communicating. Driveway is tight so smaller RV vehicles best.

Nice little spot in the hills above Nelson. So close to the city, yet so rural & quiet.
