***Hi all! Please read camper size/type specifications at bottom of page! I cannot check every profile to see your rig setup, so please only send me a message if you have a single unit camper Van/Truck (9.5" height max and 22-23 foot length maximum :) ** I live in a little cottage in the Smoky Mountains around an idyllic pond/lake, smack dab inbetween Gatlinburg and Pigeon Forge and only a 10 minute drive into the National Park. It’s me, my mom, my special needs brother** and 3 cats. I’m usually off traveling and still don't have a permanent home to call my own, but I live with my mom in between trips. I’m actually out of the state/country traveling for an extended period, so my mom is hosting alone via my account. Once I accept, I’ll have you keep in contact with my mom via text message rather than through the message dashboard here! We technically have 3 spots in our driveway, and can shuffle around to open up the easiest spot for a camper van or sprinter van to pull into. You can hook up to a water hose and a standard outdoor plug to charge your batteries. Preferably 2 night max, but we're flexible, we've always had a revolving door and have hosted and homed 100s of people one the years! Me and my mom both work from home and my brother** is most comfortable at home so there's almost always two of us here. I’ve always been huge into Couchsurfing (couchsurfing.com), both hosting and surfing all over the world...and recently someone gave me an old clunker of a camper van that I’ve fixed up and am now van-lifing in around North America! **My big brother is mentally handicapped and also has a mental illness diagnosis. He’s super awesome and friendly and funny and my favorite person ever, but he also has very hard days and you may hear him talking and yelling through his bedroom, which is closest to the parking spot. There's no need to be alarmed, he's great and just wants to be treated and talked to like a normal dude. He’s also super curious and paces around the house and the outside of the house and tends to look in around in our vehicles and any vehicles parked at out house, so just keep your van locked when you’re sleeping and when you’re not around it. Suggested Local Attractions:Great Smoky Mountains National Park, downtown Gatlinburg, Pigeon Forge, Dollywood....but mostly the mountains 😍.

House Rules

We aren’t cigarette smokers, but if you need to have at it, but for the love of god please do not start a fire, half our town and national park already burned down a few years ago. Depending on circumstance, we mayyyy or may not be able to open our house up for bathroom/shower use. We’ve got a propane grill you can use! We have a small metal fire pit and a grassy area and porch area to sit on. Alcohol/420/LGBTQ friendly! We just ask that guests be respectful and quiet and clean, it’s a quiet, peaceful neighborhood! And again, do not start any brush fires. We don't have public trash pickup, so you'll have to pack out your garbage but we can tell you about a free dump to dump personal trash. Technically we have a grassy area where your dog doesn't need to be on a leash if you're with him/her, but a leash is technically required if you want to go walking around the lake. You can also fish down there if that's your thing, but it's catch and release only...I'm not really a big of torturing things you're not planning to eat, but I aint gonna judge (even though that totally sounded judgemental hahaha). Also, we prefer that you don't intentionally kill any bugs or spiders or knock their webs down at the house ❤️❤️❤️ we are a catch and release household. ******As described in previous section, my special needs brother can be super curious and tends to look around in our vehicles all the time, so please just keep your van locked when you’re sleeping and when you’re not around it.

Location

Access Road Conditions: There are curvy roads to my house, but nothing too bad! 20 or 25 feet were the minimum available length options, but really this spot is only good for a camper van/sprinter van that can clear 9.5' which is the height of our carport. The parkable area is about 23 feet long, and you must pull between two beams that are 8.5’ across from each other. It’s a very sharp hairpin upward turn into my driveway under a carport, and anything wider or taller than a van probably wouldn’t fit, and backing in a trailer would be extremely difficult and problematic. Please don't send me a message if you have a vehicle+trailer set up or if your single until rig is larger than the dimensions stated here :) Tow Vehicle Parking Details: Our carport only works for Class B Camper Vans and Cargo/Sprinter Vans. 20'-ish long and max 9.5' height.

World traveler willing to host other weary travelers! Details: Hi! My name is Julia. I've been to 35 countries & 50 US states, and am not planning on stopping anytime soon! I’ve been on Couchsurfing.com (https://www.couchsurfing.com/people/juliacecere) for years and have always enjoyed hosting guests and surfing all over the world. As I embark upon my dream to van life across Canada and Central America (in an old van someone gave me that I'm going to fix up, pending pandemic restrictions, ugh), I want to start building up a reputation on boondockerswelcome.com as a host at my home in Gatlinburg, TN. Home Town: Gatlinburg, TN.

We loved meeting our host, and they communicated well with us. We would advise that this spot requires high clearance and a short body camper. We scraped our front bumper getting in and had to remove our bikes. Exiting the spot required using our leveling blocks to keep our front bumper from scraping again.

The host communicated both by text and phone to make sure i had the right directions. The roads to the house were narrow full of turns but the drive was worth it. Its a nice quite place and really close to the attractions in the area. We would definitely stay there again if we are in the area.

First of all, the hosts were great and very welcoming and accomodating. Great spot for visiting the Gatlinburg/Smoky NP area. It is steep and windy getting to the house, but we are used to that. We had a little problem with our Roadtrek though. We have a 2006 Roadtrek 210 which has a longer body overhang behind the rear wheels than most vans. Going in and coming out of the driveway we dragged the bottom of the tire carrier. We were OK though. Our van has rear airbags which raise the back somewhat which we were glad we have. A standard 210 without airbags or other vehicle that has a long overhang could have a bigger problem dragging. Again, great Hosts and a nice spot but realize your particular vehicle could have dragging issues.

Ms.Gretchen is a wonderul host! Very informative and helpful. We enjoyed our stay up on the mountain. We hate we couldn’t stay longer. The drive up is a little steep and tight, but definitely worth it!

I had some difficulties finding it as its so tucked away, but a telephone call had everything squared away. It’s a super peaceful location and parked under a carport. There was the wonderful sound of rain on the roof and windchimes in the breeze. I would definitely stay again if I’m going that way. Loved it.
