Update 8/5/24: Road construction closures and delays. Please check https://www.cotrip.org/home. There is road construction between Poncha Springs and Maysville this summer. Traffic backups may increase noise levels earlier in the morning and affect access to our property. I will try to keep you updated via messages if you are due to stay when the construction might cause issues. Highway 50 has been closed west of Gunnison at Blue Mesa lake for emergency bridge work and this is expected to last for quite some time. RVs, trailers and other large vehicles are required to detour around the bridge. We have highway access and several mostly-level parking spots on our small acreage surrounded by much larger ranches. The highway can be busy during the day, but it is usually very quiet at night. Monarch Ski area is within 20 miles. Poncha Springs is the closest community, for minor shopping and some dining. Downtown Salida is 6 miles away. There are several breweries, wineries and a distillery. Outdoor activities in Chaffee County include river-related (fishing & rafting), hiking the numerous peaks and trails, mountain biking, 4-wheeling, and general sightseeing. Municipal water and a pay dump station are at the Poncha Springs Visitor Center. Wildlife in this area ranges from mice to moose. While we have never seen a moose or elk on our property, they are nearby. We often have deer, racoons, foxes, coyotes, bears and mountain lions visit. We have multiple species of birds, from hummingbirds to red-tailed hawks and owls. Watch for deer on the roads, especially at dawn and dusk. We are part of Boondockers Welcome and this is not a Harvest Host location. We do not expect any payment, donations, gifts or purchases of any kind.

Initial check-in is preferred at 3:00 pm but MUST be between 9:00 am and SUNSET (not dark!). If you will arrive earlier or later than 3:00, PLEASE send a message and let us know so we can greet you and direct you to a parking place. Paved highway access and gravel drive. Parking is gravel or packed dirt with some grassy areas. Our spots are back-in. There should be plenty of room for tow vehicle parking. We don't usually answer telephone calls, but are typically very prompt if you contact us through the BW messaging system.
