Having moved from Illinois to experience a more simple way of life and learning how to farm, we chose the beautiful Blue Grass area of Kentucky to forge our dream. We raise chickens both for meat and eggs, peacocks for pleasure, sheep for lamb meat and farm produce from arugula to zucchini. This journey has been amazing and we want to share this place with others. Our farm is close to many hiking trails: Sally Brown Preserve, Dupree Nature Preserve, Jim Beam Preserve. These are all along the steep palisades of limestone rock along the Kentucky river and feature wildflowers, wildlife and much more, all protected by The Nature Conservancy. The Bourbon Trail is close and quite interesting. Your host can make recommendations as to the best distilleries to visit. History buffs will appreciate a visit to nearby Camp Nelson, a National Park monument. This had been a fortified supply depot for the Union army during the Civil War. The Visitors' Center and Museum is fascinating. Shaker Village is also close and a unique, landmark destination offering a wide array of educational programs, music, food and adventures. Danville has the Great American Dollhouse Museum, Constitution Square and is home to the Great American Brass Band Festival in late May. Keeneland has it's Spring meet horse racing in the month of April and Fall meet horse racing is in the month of October. There are so many things to do nearby and you can park your rig here and take off and enjoy so many things. Then return to your home-away-from-home and relax on the farm.
