About
We live on 7 acres with frontage on the West Fork of the Bitterroot River. Access to hiking trails, creeks, and lakes. Less than 30 miles from Lost Trail Ski Resort. There is a local saloon within walking distance. The local taphouse has reopened with beer, wine, seltzer, and food. There are a few restaurants within a few miles.
We have a 50 amp RV connection and a regular 20 amp outlet available. No charge. Electricity is cheap in Montana.
Dogs are welcome and can have a fenced-in area to romp and explore. We have an older German Shepard mix who is chill and a younger dog still finding his way in the world and a bit reactive. He will bark at you a bit but quickly warm up to your dogs. He will be kept out of your way if necessary.
We have lots of animals in the area. Plenty of deer. We saw river otters once. The occasional beaver. We have had a big bull moose and a medium black bear on the property in recent years. We came across a mountain lion while hiking upstream a few years ago. If you are hiking the Bitterroot, follow the rules: Don't hike alone, carry bear spray and know how to use it, be loud, carry food and water.
The Bitterroot Valley is a mountain hiker's paradise. You can find opportunities online here:
https://www.visitbitterrootvalley.com/hiking-trails/
and
https://bitterroot.info/hiking-the-bitterroot-mountains/
These sites just scratch the surface of what is available. Close to us you can find:
Baker Lake, a relatively short hike but with some elevation gain. Accessible from West Fork Road and then several miles of driving on a reasonably well-maintained gravel road. From Baker Lake, you can continue to hike further into the mountains to Gem Lake.
Tin Cup Creek to Tin Cup Lake. The trailhead is available from Tin Cup Road in the Town of Darby. The trail up the creek is very nice with a gradual elevation gain and not too strenuous unless you try to make it all the way to the lake (10 miles).
Lake Como Loop, available from Lake Como Road about 4 miles north of Darby. This is an 8 mile hike if you go all the way around the lake. There is very little elevation gain and loss.
