Welcome to Heaven in The Pines, your private gateway to The Hamptons and hub for all things Long Island and New York City! We are located on just over a third of an acre of well groomed serenity in the heart of mid-Suffolk county, local to many family and pet-friendly attractions on Long Island and NYC. We hope you will enjoy staying at our unique location and make family memories for years to come. There's a lot of information following this introduction, so get ready to read, trust us, it's worth it to read it all, probably twice. Many of the additions here were added after getting lost or stuck in a bind ourselves. We did the hard work, so you don't have to!: For out-of-state travelers: The best tried-and-true way to get to Long Island/our location via interstate/highway is by sticking to the 95 interstates, and there are a couple of ways to accomplish this but if you drive really slow and follow the signs, you won't ever forget or get lost.. Again, REMEMBER THE 95's!!! DO NOT TRUST even the best RV safe GPS's as we have tried them all and they all DO NOT WORK! JUST REMEMBER THE 95's!!! You can do one of the following routes, depending on where you're coming from, and if you're unsure, I text you my number beforehand and am glad to direct you so you don't accidentally find yourself on a parkway or in the middle of rush hour in downtown Manhattan or Brooklyn (nearly every out of state traveler that insists on using the RV GPS): Again, DO NOT FOLLOW YOUR RV GPS or GOOGLE MAPS DIRECTLY. The best way is to plug in our address in your GPS as a general guide, but then navigating on one of these routes until you are on I495 Long Island Expressway. The GPS will always try to reroute you some confounded way through NYC and YOU WILL REGRET FOLLOWING THE GPS through the city. You can get on to Long Island by these tried and true routes: From North/West/South: Take I-81(N-S) or I-80(W-E) inbound until you start to see signs for New York City, then take I-95 North or South to the George Washington Bridge's Upper Level (lower level is passenger cars only), then follow signs for Long Island via the Cross Bronx Expressway (a small section of I-95), The Throgs Neck Bridge (DO NOT TAKE THE WHITESTONE BRIDGE, WHICH TERMINATES IN A PARKWAY), The Clearview Expressway (I-295), and Long Island Expressway (I-495). From Connecticut, New England, etc.: You can take I-95 south directly to the Throgs Neck Bridge via I-695, then the same as above to I-295 and I-495 From the New York State Thruway (I-90 and I-87): Take the Thruway over the Mario Cuomo Bridge (formerly the Tappan Zee Bridge), south to the Cross Bronx Expressway (a small section of I-95) and follow the same as above to I-295 Clearview Expwy and I-495 Long Island Expwy (LIE). Beware all parkways in New York State!! RVs and commercial vehicles are prohibited on all Parkways in New York State, and usually for severe height restrictions under their abnormally low bridges and overpasses- do not take the Belt Parkway (E-W), Southern State Parkway (E-W), Sagtikos Parkway (N-S), Northern State Parkway (E-W), Grand Central Parkway (E-W), or any road bearing the name "Parkway." Anything much over 7 feet tall risks not fitting under the numerous and very low-hanging infrastructure. Think, opening a can of sardines, but it's your roof. *Special Parkway Notes and the importance of avoiding them*- The Grand Central Parkway (I-278) is *technically* RV safe WEST of the Cross Island Parkway in Queens County, but only for an EXTREMELY SHORT distance of a few miles- THIS IS THE ONLY INSTANCE WHERE A PARKWAY IS SAFE, BUT DO NOT RELY ON IT- it takes you through Brooklyn and over the Kosziusco Bridge which is local and quite literally always bumper to bumper stop and go traffic. AVOID I-278- it is ALMOST ALWAYS bumper to bumper, local traffic. Remember, STICK TO THE 95s!!! The Expressways and highways are your friends. Next, I've told you about sticking to the 95's and taking the Throgs Neck Bridge to get to Long Island- Yes, do this, but beware, even on the Throgs Neck Bridge, there is an exit for the Cross Island Parkway right at the end of the bridge for the right two lanes- you may be in the left of these right two lanes as this is the farthest right that RVs and trucks may drive in- this is one of the busiest merge locations on this trip and a lot of people will fly by you like the Fast and the Furious to get to this exit- everyone in NY does it- even me, when I'm not towing. Remember, YOU DO NOT WANT THE PARKWAY, AVOID THE CROSS ISLAND PARKWAY at the end of the Throgs Neck Bridge- you will have to merge left one lane while many crazy drivers are merging right. You have been warned. Slow and steady.. General travel advice for Long Island: everything you've heard about New York drivers is true, and even out on suburban and rural Long Island, it is much like driving in a big busy city. People are in a huge rush all the time, and people move a million miles an hour. Just be cool, keep your wits about you, and you'll be fine. Use your signals, let people merge, etc. Nobody said this was going to be easy, it's an island on the other side of another island! You'll need to cross at least two bridges to get here. You can get an EZ-pass online and mailed to you in advance, which I strongly suggest- the tolls for paying at the booth are much more money and significantly slower without the EZ-Pass, which now in NY are all 55 mph lanes- you don't even slow down anymore with EZ-pass. Get one! Okay, that about sums up the travel experience. It's worth it, trust us, but definitely not for the faint of heart. You have to really WANT to come here to come to Long Island, but it is definitely one of those "if you know, you know" type places. There is something for everyone, families big and small. Long Island is home to arguably the best seafood in New England, and many Michelin quality restaurants of nearly every ethnicity and taste, The East End Wine Country, the Beaches, apple and pumpkin picking, and so much more. Booking a stay: Our calendar is up-to-date and current- if you can request it, it's usually available. We block out dates as they book, but feel free to message us and we may be able to accommodate in an emergency or at least point you in the right direction. We work from home and are available to be an RV resource whether you are staying with us or not. We've found that the RV community is largely warm, welcoming, and giving, and this is our way of giving back. Feel free to message us anytime if you need help navigating New York or are stuck somewhere, and we will be glad to help if we can. The parking situation at our location: We have two choices available to park depending on your rig and we are able to book two at a time if both fit- we live on a flat, level street that can accommodate a Class C RV, skoolie, van, bus, truck, TOAD, etc., Parking on the street will require you to orient yourself appropriately for your popout and drivers side popouts will stick into the street if you park regularly next to the curb.. If you turn around facing the wrong way, your popout will be safely over the curb and front grass and you will not risk sticking a few feet extra into the street. Our large driveway can fit travel trailers, 5th wheels, Class A motorhomes, Skoolies, etc. up to and including about 40 feet. We technically have two driveway spots but one is usually occupied by our 30ft travel trailer. There is additional space in the driveway in front of our trailer for a tow vehicle, a TOAD, and/or a tow dolly. On a rare occasion when our rig is out in use we may be able to accommodate a second rig in our 2nd driveway parking spot for a short stay, but this is a rare coincidence. Regardless of the site you choose, the maximum size we are able to accommodate is just about 40 feet for either site. The largest rig we have hosted is a 38 foot Class A with no TOAD, although we would have been able to accommodate one. They were able to fit in our driveway with room to spare in the front and back, with ample room on both sides to pop out all of their popouts, extend their awnings, and had no trouble auto-leveling. We have room to safely store your tow dolly and park your TOAD if you have one, regardless of your rig length. You can see the Class A in our profile pictures with our trailer in the background. RV Amenities: We offer full RV Resort style hookups for nightly rates- We have a 50 amp electrical post (with 30A reducer/surge protector if you are 30A), pressure-regulated fresh water hookup, and a maceration dump pump if you would like to dump your tanks. All of these RV amenities are available a-la-carte but are included if you book a nightly rate. Public Transport in the area: We are about five minutes drive to the Long Island Railroad (LIRR) Patchogue station, which is the train you need if you're going out to the Hamptons or Montauk by train. We are also close to the Ronkonkoma station, which is the major hub to get into Penn Station (NYC Manhattan, midtown, between 32nd and 33rd streets) by train, which connects to the NYC subway system and MetroNorth Railroad systems. To get to NYC or Montauk are approximately equidistant. Both trips are approximately one-and-a-half hours to Penn Station/NYC or the Hamptons/Montauk. NYC Subway MetroCards and LIRR Train tickets can be purchased at any LIRR station. MetroCards can be used indefinitely as you can exchange a card with an expired balance for a new card if you don't use it all in one trip. Save it for next time! The Hamptons are about 45 minutes of drive time, give or take a bit for traffic- It's about an hour to East Hampton town, and add another 45 minutes to an hour or more to get all the way out to Montauk. My family grew up in Montauk, and the drive time has increased substantially over the years. It's still worth the trip, we think. Once you're here, we are fairly hands off, but always available should you need anything during your stay. We'll get you set up, then you're free to come and go and do as you please. We have tools if you need to fix something, and I'm glad to help either with a repair or to direct you to a nearby diesel and bus or RV trailer repair facility in the area. We have an adapter and RV surge protector to accommodate 30a rigs, and extension cords for those just looking for a 20a, 15a, or miscellaneous 12v plug for a trickle charger. We have something for everybody! We also rent out our pair of bicycles (a 26.5" ladies Schwinn and a 29" Cannondale trail with hitch rack), a 16' fiberglass vintage Montauk Boatworks Canoe (2 person) with life jackets, paddles, and a canoe hitch mount for pickup trucks. We also host on Rover and Wag, and can dog sit/board your fur babies overnight while the humans go have some fun! Doggy daycare rates are $25 per dog per day, and overnights are $50 per dog per day. Our pups are very friendly, used to other big and small dogs, and very happy to have the company. Sunny is male, 6 pounds, a Morkie, and Silas is a male 20lb JRT/MinPin mix. Our block is an entirely flat street with no overhead powerlines and no dead end. It is a through street from both directions to major thoroughfares. Our driveway has been cleared from trees overhead to approximately 14' and the primary back in spot with full day solar view of the sky. The street parking spot is under a large mature tree that has been trimmed back to 14' minimum clearance. Our driveway has the slightest slope towards the street but is essentially flat and level. Many are able to level without any extra blocks but we have leveling equipment that you can use if somehow your rig is unlevel. We also have cinder blocks to put under your tongue jack if needed. We have ample space for a TOAD, a tow dolly, and to disconnect from your trailer to take daytrips to the many activities Long Island has to offer. We are glad to provide public transportation directions and recommendations or suggestions of things in the area of Long Island and NYC.
