About
As the sun dips below the horizon, a space steeped in history whispers stories of the past to today's RV camping enthusiasts. At this unique destination, RV travelers will uncover the rich tapestry of American heritage within a setting that has meticulously preserved the narratives of Moravian, Black, and Indigenous populations in the Southern United States. RVers are invited to anchor their homes-on-wheels at a dedicated RV parking spot right at the heart of the historic experience. Positioned at 900 Old Salem Road in the charming city of Winston-Salem, North Carolina, this location promises a harmonious blend of education and tranquility. The journey through time begins at the Historic Town of Salem, where animated guides and well-preserved structures draw you into the stories of life in a bygone era. Continue on to the Museum of Early Southern Decorative Arts (MESDA), where the nation's finest collection of Southern decorative arts awaits including original architecture, exquisite furniture, and enthralling metalwork, among other historical treasures. Not to be overlooked, the Gardens at Old Salem offer a horticultural escape where travelers can wander through living exhibits reflecting gardening practices of the time. Each plot and path takes you deeper into the understanding of how the land shaped the community's livelihood. RV camping guests can embrace the full experience with their four-legged companions, strolling through the historic streets against the backdrop of the North Carolina twilight. While pets must remain leashed and cannot enter the buildings unless they are certified service animals, the outdoor spaces promise a refreshing walk through history for both you and your furry friends. Be sure to check operating hours before setting out, ensuring that your visit to this captivating slice of American history aligns seamlessly with your RV adventure. Embark on a journey that offers more than just a place to park; it's an unforgettable foray into the heart and soul of early American life a true highlight for those tracing the cultural tapestry of the South while enjoying the freedom of RV camping.
