"Windfall" is a small, 5-acre horse farm in the Cascade foothills of Washington state. Our elevation is 875 feet above sea level. Surrounded by Christmas tree farms and commercial timber beyond, the trees sweep toward the northeast and Mount Rainier National Park. In the early 1900's the farm was originally a dairy with the barn, as is often the case, being built years before the house. My barn was built in 1925 and is on the Washington State Heritage Barn Register. It is a grand old barn who needs some work, having withstood a lot of weather for close to a century. I'm keeping my fingers crossed my barn will be awarded a Heritage Barn Grant for stabilization in 2021. My house was built in 1935 and has been shelter and home for many generations. The first one-room school house for the settlement of Alpha was in my front yard a hundred years ago and possibly, at one time, the "school marm" lived here. I'm honored to share this land with it's four-legged inhabitants --- cottontails, Columbia blacktail deer, many species of owls, Black-capped Chickadees, Evening Grosbeaks, Spotted Towhees, Dark-eyed Juncos and many more. My feeder is filled throughout the summer with our state bird, the American Goldfinch. There's a special place in my heart for a huge black Raven who hunts mice "with me" when I am mowing the pasture. He's named "Batman" for his 7 foot wide wing span. Trees canopy much of my farm. From towering giant evergreens to maples and apple and pear trees. There is so much wildlife habitat here. One of the trees near the old barn is a homesteader's tree, planted well over a century ago to aid in claiming the land. * Most important --- relax and have a great time! * Adults only please. * Please arrive during daylight hours. Things just make more sense during the day for positioning your RV, tow vehicle and getting the layout of the farm. * No smoking or fires of any kind from any source. * If you "carry", please safely secure your firearms in your RV or tow vehicle while on my property. * Please don't go beyond the fence line or gates that divide the house area from the barn area. If you'd like a tour of the barn or to meet the horses I'd be glad to show you around. * Pets (dogs and cats only) must be kept on a secure leash and collar or harness at all times while outside your RV. Please pick up after them. Don't frighten my calico barn cat "Callie" who thinks she's in charge of the farm --- and she is! * Please run your generator only between the hours of 8 a.m. and 10 p.m. * So...quiet hours are from 10 p.m. to 8 a.m. * If you need to fill your water let me know and I'll show you which hydrant you can use (not available during winter). * There is no place to leave garbage/trash/animal waste, you'll need to take that with you. * "Check out" by noon. Access Road Conditions: * To enter the property make a 90 degree turn to the right from the two-laned (minimal dirt shoulder) country road. * The driveway is hard packed gravel and entirely level. * A (new!) black chain link fence will be on your left and dense shrubs and mature fruit trees on your right. * Once you are completely off the road --- park. I will direct you to the site which is in the circular portion of the driveway. * I cannot accommodate huge, tall "Montana"-style fifth wheel trailers because of overhanging trees. Tow Vehicle Parking Details: * Your tow vehicle can be unhitched and parked in front of your travel trailer.
