The History

The history of Double S Alpaca Farm began in 2014, when the owners, Steve and Sandy Clemons, purchased their first alpacas. In 2017, they officially became a registered business, with the “double S” in their business title standing for Steve and Sandy. Since then, they have significantly grown their alpaca farm in Princeton, Minnesota, raising and breeding alpacas to produce top quality fiber for products. The Double S Alpaca Farm owners pet a few of their alpacas.

The Business Today

Today, Double S Alpaca Farm continues to breed, raise and show alpacas on their Minnesota property. The Clemons are 4H volunteers, and they lead the 4H LAMA program for Isanti County and the Isanti County Fair. The farm's store, The Alpaca Shacka, has a variety of alpaca fiber products available, including socks, scarves, hats, gloves, and much more. They also grow vegetables and fruits and sell and can their home-grown produce.A wall lined in alpaca fiber socks and other products. When asked her favorite part about running her business, Sandy responded, “We love working with the beautiful alpacas. They are gentle and loving animals. Educating people about these wonderful creatures is the best part of the job.”

Joining Harvest Hosts

Double S Alpaca Farm joined Harvest Hosts just about two short months ago. They belong to a Farm Direct Minnesota Facebook page, and it is there that they saw a discussion on the Harvest Hosts membership program. Sandy looked into it and absolutely fell in love with the concept. Since joining, the hosts report that their guests have been so nice and friendly. They have enjoyed meeting all the guests and showing them around their business. One of their guests even had the opportunity to meet a newborn alpaca cria (baby).A sweet, young alpaca stands in a grassy patch.Their location is both peaceful and beautiful. They are very centrally located to almost every major city in Minnesota, and they are about an hour north of the Twin Cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul. Steve and Sandy also offer farm tours and even have a picnic area available for guests. Currently, they have three pet-friendly spaces for RVs less than forty-four feet in length. They are open to Harvest Hosts members on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Wednesdays from late spring until late September.Several sweet alpacas stand together in a dirt patch.Double S Alpaca Farm is an incredible Harvest Hosts location in the Minnesota countryside where guests can meet alpacas and purchase products made from their fiber.
