Finding Hidden Acres Orchard
Harvest Hosts is a unique RV membership program with a large network of available hosts. So far, 4847+ locations have opened their hearts and their homes and/or businesses to members of the Harvest Hosts RVing community. Through this program, members receive overnight accommodations with no camping fees in peaceful and serene places across North America. In return, members must make a purchase to patronize the small business that hosts them. Of these Hosts, Hidden Acres Orchards is an awesome choice. Here you can learn all about the farm’s history, its origins within the Harvest Hosts community, and what future visitors can expect to experience.
The History
Hidden Acres Orchards first opened in 1970, and the same family has operated the farm since then. The sixty-acre fruit farm is currently on its fourth generation of family owners, and many changes have been made since the business opened fifty years ago. They currently operate as a solar, wind and bio-diesel-powered farm, with many other new technologies added. The current owners’ favorite part of running their business is the opportunity for them to sell wholesome food to their community.
The Business Today
Today, Hidden Acres operates primarily as a U-pick farm, with various fruits and vegetables offered at different times throughout the seasons. Typically, they offer asparagus and wild mushrooms in the spring, plus cherries, peaches, apricots, plums, flowers, and other vegetables in the summer. Then, in the fall, they offer apples, winter squash, and pumpkins. All their produce is no-spray or low-spray, and they strive to always have something available to pick.
Towards the middle of the orchard, you can find their farm store. It is well-stocked with goodies, such as homemade jams, jellies, apple butters, syrups, sauces, raw apple cider, mini donuts, take and bake pies, salsas, and other local treasures. Finally, they offer yearly educational harvest tours from mid-September through late October. These tours are typically about an hour in length and offer a hay ride, an educational lesson about bees, the U-pick pumpkin patch, and a snack. There is also a petting zoo and apple picking available at this time.
