Visiting Broken Spoke Winery

Harvest Hosts is a unique RV membership program with a large network of available hosts. So far, 4847+ locations have opened their hearts and their homes and/or businesses to members of the Harvest Hosts RVing community. Through this program, members receive overnight accommodations with no camping fees in peaceful and serene places across North America. In return, members must make a purchase to patronize the small business that hosts them. Of these Hosts, Broken Spoke Vineyard and Winery is particularly unique. Here you can learn all about the winery’s history, its operations today, its origins within the Harvest Hosts community, and what future visitors can expect to experience.

The History

Thea and Rob Hall, along with their daughter Maggie, opened Broken Spoke Winery on June 23, 2017. Since that time, they have been eager to share their love of wine and agriculture with others. The Broken Spoke Family (Thea, Rob, and Maggie) have just one motto: “Take a break; Start a Conversation,” and with this the Broken Spoke brand was built. Their greatest passions include relaxation, time spent with family, and the power of conversation. Every day offers new reasons to celebrate and indulge with friends, food, and beverages. They sincerely hope that their wine and farm prove to be as enriching an experience for you as it has been a lifestyle for them.

The Business Today

Since their opening in Earleville, Maryland in 2017, the Halls have been befriending wine lovers from all over the country. Their tasting room, the Sipping Stables, can be found inside an old, converted horse barn, making for a fun atmosphere for wine drinking. Their wines include a unique selection of Chardonnay, Vidal Blanc, Cognac, Sauvignon Blanc, and a variety of white, red, and rosé blends. Each weekend, they host a variety of events, including Food Truck Fridays, Cinema Saturdays, and Farmer’s Market Sundays. In addition to wine, they also offer beer, wine slushies, charcuterie, wood-fired pizzas, and ice cream at their various events.

On their property, Broken Spoke also has a variety of farm animals, including ponies, sheep, donkeys, goats, pigs, chickens, and even peacocks, which many visitors seem to enjoy. The Halls’ favorite part of running their business is enlightening the public to the need for agriculture and open space.

Joining Harvest Hosts

Broken Spoke Vineyard and Winery joined the Harvest Hosts program about two years ago when they were recommended by another host. They have enjoyed the overall experience of being hosts, finding it rather interesting and gratifying. “When members tell you how great your place is,” says Thea, “it reminds you that you are truly lucky.” They would like members that have made coast to coast trips to share their overall travel experiences and stories.

On their thirty-acre property, guests can find a deck area and plenty of opportunities for wildlife viewing, as well as a gift shop. Past guests have raved about the awesome wines, the food, the views, and the overall hospitality of the hosts. Currently, they have three pet-friendly spaces for RVs of any size available.

Broken Spoke Vineyard and Winery is an amazing place, full of amazing people, delicious wines, and tons of fun. Be sure to stop by for a visit next time you pass through Northern Maryland.
