About
Boondockers - Welcome to "Beefield". We live in rural Georgia; out in farming country yet only 15 minutes from town. If the weather cooperates you could be blessed with a stunning sunrise view over the fields across the way. Please try to limit same-day requests to just one night. We enabled them to help out our fellow travelers with last-minute changes of plan. We enjoy offering a boondock spot. We understand the challenges of finding a place to stay when you're on the road, especially between destinations. Please note - this is a roadside spot. (See main photograph). It may not be glamorous, but it's convenient! It's a grassy, easily accessible, firm and flat roadside pull-off (with water and electric hookup available if needed. Sorry, water not available during freezing conditions). CONSIDERATIONS: * "Beefield": ~ We are retired beekeepers but we still have a beehive or two nearby on the property. If you are allergic; this may not be the best location for you to stay. ~ We have a friendly dog, cats and some chickens on the property. (Our old grey Tomcat is partly deaf so please look out for him). ~ We sometimes have eggs available so do ask if interested. * Neighbors' Dog: The immediate neighbors have a big white Great Pyrenees. He is behind an 'invisible fence' but will cross over to our property if suitably motivated. He is not the friendliest. WHAT TO EXPECT: * Roadside pull-off site: ~ We are fortunate to have a long flat verge (grass area at the side of the road) which allows us to offer a place for you to stay. It's a pretty quiet rural road. ~ We are out in farming country so during the day there will likely be tractors, 4-wheelers, UTVs and pickups more than cars. We sometimes get logging trucks or big agri-equipment passing by; it all depends on the season and what's happening on nearby farms. * Country Wildlife: ~ Bullfrogs and cicadas seasonally serenade the darkness. ~ Mosquitoes and gnats can be rather too plentiful. (Fortunately our gnats are annoying but don't bite; we have "eye-gnats" rather than the coastal "noseeum/ sand-gnats"). ~ Ants (including fire-ants). Watch where you walk, especially if you have open footwear. Closed-toe recommended. ~ Snakes. Be mindful as they are around. Most are useful non-venomous snakes that we're happy to see. However, while infrequent, venomous species are local. * Sun: ~Please be aware that the campsite is in full sun (great for solar). Sorry, but there is no shade available. ~ Canopies can be partially opened on the inward side only please, not out to the road (safety). ~ TIP: Watch your positioning between the Crepe Myrtle trees when parking if you want your canopy out. * Security: ~ Automatic power-company security night light nearby. ~ Security cameras cover the property within the fence. * Beeutiful Bees: ~ We have recently retired our beekeeping business but if you have any questions we'd 'bee' happy to talk bees with you 🐝 ~ FYI: We sold Beekeeping supplies and equipment to backyard beekeepers rather than producing honey. We performed professional honey bee removals from property. Ruth was also Secretary of the local Beekeepers club and specializes in teaching and helping beginners. ~ TIP: Google search "Beeutiful Bees" for easy navigation! * Noise? - Seasonal training on Fort Stewart can sometimes (rarely) be heard (usually around January) and sounds just like very distant thunder. (It's a good 30 miles or so away so not a disturbance, more a confusing curiosity on a sunny day!). Questions? Message us! We look forward to meeting you. ========================== Additional information: * PETS (mostly ours): Dog: We have a very friendly female husky mix (medium-sized, approx 60 lbs). She loves people, especially kids, and gets on great with most other dogs, and cats. Cats (2+1): ~ Our big gray tomcat is old and mostly deaf. He owns the place! He'll greet you like an old friend... and climb in your camper if you're not paying attention! ~ Our calico & white fluffball is becoming more friendly but she does like to run and hide under vehicles! ~ The neighbors' cat is a little brown / gray tabby and she's VERY friendly and often around to greet our guests too. She might jump in your camper! Chickens: Watch out for them free-ranging on occasion. Avoid any roosters. Honeybees: We only have a couple of hives on our property these days . They're not always friendly - it depends on the season, food availability, etc. Hives can be an attraction and a danger, especially to pets and young children. Please keep away from any beehives and in particular do not walk in front of them or across their flight line. If you're interested and would like to know more about bees we'd 'bee' happy to share our knowledge. * Pets (neighbors): We've already mentioned their dog and cat... they also have a "miniature" pot-bellied pig that you may see wandering around! * Enjoy yourselves and wake early enough to catch the sunrise! Thank you. ========================== LOCAL INFORMATION: Let us know your needs and interests and we can help you find the right place(s). ____________________ Sections: Local Highlights Practical Info Activities & Interests Town & City (Shopping etc) Auto & Camper ____________________ LOCAL HIGHLIGHTS * Fairs & Festivals ~ March: St. Patrick's Day ☘️ March 17th Savannah (one of the largest and oldest parades and celebrations in the US). ~ July: July 4th (or closest Saturday) Fireworks and celebrations, Mill Creek Park, Statesboro. ~ August or September: Peanut Festival, Brooklet. ~ October: Kiwanis Ogeechee Fair, Statesboro. ~ November: Sugar Cane Festival, George L Smith State Park. * Family Fun: (Locally in Statesboro). ~ "Clubhouse" (bowling, laser tag, fun zone etc). ~ Cinema. ~ Disc Golf (Free.
