About
Quiet, peaceful farmstead in central Kansas offers a place to unwind and rest without traffic noises or blaring stereos. Seldom used road is a great place to take a walk in the evening while enjoying the vast open space.
Our parking areas are on grassy areas very close to level. You may need to use leveling blocks, depending on where you choose to park. One electric hookup ((30 A only)) is available near the Quonset. Water is available from our well, possibly by hooking up to the hydrant or by adding some to your water tank. We use a water filter when filling our trailer. There is a dump station available also.
In the winter we ask that you try to arrive before 4:00 pm so that you have enough light to set up. In the summer, with longer evenings, arriving later will still give you time to set up and settled. Come to the front door and we'll come out to show you where to park, how to get water, etc.
We are located ten miles from Cheyenne Bottoms, the largest wetland in the interior of the US, a stopping point for birds migrating along the Central Flyway. The Bottoms are also critical habitats for several endangered and threatened species. A little further is Quivira National Wildlife Refuge. (The Bottoms are suffering from the drought at this time with low water levels and some ponds have dried up completely. I do not know how this will affect the fall bird migration. I have not heard anything about Quivira, it may be suffering the same fate.)
The Wetlands and Wildlife National Scenic Byway includes both Cheyenne Bottoms and Quivera: https://www.travelks.com/things-to-do/byways-and-highways/byways/wetlands-and-wildlife/
We are 20 miles from Great Bend KS. Tripadvisor list of things to do and see:
