The First Presbyterian Church of Washington was organized on August 9, 1823, and the first cornerstone was erected for the worship of Almighty God on August 7, 1824. Peace was short lived in Washington as Federal troops took possession of the town in May,1862 and the church was burned down as the Federal soldiers evacuated the town. In the Spring of 1866, the present building was erected and stands as a monument to the fidelity and sacrificial devotion of a small but consecrated congregation who, despite ruin on every hand, completed the work of building the present church. The First Presbyterian Church is part of the Washington Historic District and is listed on the National Register of Historic Places in the United States of America. Our beautiful church is only steps away from many fine restaurants, shops, and waterfront fun. We invite you to join us in worship on Sundays at 10:30!
