Harvest Hosts is an incredibly unique RV membership program. Through this program, members are granted access to 5200 host locations across North America for overnight accommodations with no camping fees. To support each of these businesses, members typically make a small purchase of wine or produce or whatever it is that the business is selling or offering. Locations include establishments such as farms, wineries, breweries, museums, restaurants, attractions, and more. Abbott Farms Wine & Cidery is an incredible example of one of our amazing hosts. The History
The Abbott Farm story dates all the way back to the mid 1800’s when the Abbotts wanted to move their farm to a location with easier winter travel. Back in this day, the Abbott Farm grew some produce, bred show horses, and produced dairy, and locals had a hard time reaching their previous farm in the winter. Moving their site allowed for more business in the winter months.
A few generations later, Windsor Abbott and Nancy Hencle were married, and the couple began some pivotal changes on the farm. Windsor sold the cows to focus on grain crops and eventually built an on-site farm stand. By 1993 they needed to expand to a larger country store to encompass all of their products. By 2007, they shifted gears to offer U-Pick crops and make the Abbott Farm into the family experience it is today.
The Business Today
Today, visitors of all ages enjoy visiting this lovely farm. Between the friendly animals, hidden games throughout the farm, and tasty treats, it’s no wonder why. There are friendly goats, a pig, and chickens that can all be fed treats from a coin-operated dispenser.
The Country Store is teeming with goodies, such as sauces, baked goods, ice cream, produce, and coffee drinks for visitors to enjoy. They also produce their own wine and cider made in small batches. The wine and cidery is only open on weekends, and they offer flights and tastings.
Joining Harvest Hosts
Former RV owners themselves, the Abbotts strive to make Harvest Hosts members’ experiences as comfortable as possible. Windsor and Nancy Abbott have been a part of the Harvest Hosts program since the very beginning. They used to travel in their own RV, and they continue to enjoy hosting RVers on their spacious property. They have many private spaces on their property, and there are even a few that offer an electric hookup. This Harvest Hosts location offers ten reservable, pet-friendly spaces for RVs of any size, and the map provided on the website can help you select your space.
I visited this lovely Harvest Hosts location in May 2021 while heading home from a road trip. The property was easily maneuverable, and I was easily able to choose a nice, level site for my stay. The animals were so fun to visit and interact with, and I found some awesome goodies to bring home from the farm store. This wonderful location comes highly recommended.
