Find Breweries on the Road with Untappd
Some of the most popular Harvest Hosts locations are breweries. Unfortunately, there aren’t Harvest Hosts locations everywhere yet, and there are also many breweries out there that haven’t partnered with Harvest Hosts yet to allow RV parking. What if there was a way to find local breweries, see what other beer-lovers are saying about it, and even give your opinion about beers you’ve tried?
Untappd is a location-based social platform with beer at its core. Founded in 2010, Untappd is a new way to socially share the brew you’re currently enjoying, as well as where you’re enjoying it, with your friends. Listed in the top 50 apps of the year in 2016 by Time magazine, Untappd has a pretty large following. There are over 2.5 million active users monthly, meaning that you’re getting the most up-to-date reviews on nearby brews. It’s a fun and easy way to discover new breweries and keep track of what you and your friends are drinking.
Where to Use Untappd
Untappd can be used anywhere. We specifically recommend using it while traveling in your RV. After all, you probably have a favorite brewery back home. If you’ve ever been out traveling and had a hankering for a craft beer but didn’t know where to go, this app is for you. Likewise, if the weather is nice and you’re in a new town, you can check out Untappd to know what’s popular nearby. As mentioned above, not all breweries in North America have partnered with Harvest Hosts. However, any brewery you can imagine will be listed on Untappd. Untappd is available all over the world, meaning that you can virtually check out a brewery in Germany without leaving your couch. This is a great tool for planning future trips and fun pit stops.
How to Use Untappd
Untappd is available online as a web page or as an app for Apple and Android. The app is significantly easier to use since you most likely don’t bring your computer to breweries. Before even leaving your RV, you can search for nearby breweries and check out what’s on tap.
Once you arrive, you can check in to that brewery and list what beer you’re drinking. You can give it a rating, leave a comment, and even upload a photo. This is a great feature for capturing those brews with funky can art or if the light is hitting your flight just right on the patio.
Another nice feature is that, similar to a Facebook business page or Google business page, business owners can claim their breweries and manage their own listing. This gives the business a platform to keep their brew menu updated and bring in new customers.
Are there any perks?
Absolutely! The more beers you drink, the more badges you unlock. Think of it as “leveling up.” It’s not necessarily based on quantity, as badges are also based on drinking particular beers or visiting on particular days. The badges are a fun way to branch out and try something new, with a nice little added surprise. As you explore more brews and locations, you will uncover a variety of badges, and you can even compete with your friends to see who can earn more!
Untappd is a social app, meaning that you can connect with other locals and your friends. Curious what your friends are drinking or where they’re hanging out? Just check out their Untappd profile and comment on their share and find out! It’s a great way to spread your favorite brews and hangouts with your friends.
Untappd also rolled out a premium membership for the most dedicated of beer drinkers called Insiders. As an Untappd Insider, members get exclusive badges, better statistics, access to Untappd’s secret merch store, and more. You’re also able to log a check-in from the past. Forgot to check in last night? No worries. As an insider you can log a previous day or location.
Traveling the country in your RV is an incredible experience that can only be enhanced by cracking open a craft beer at your campsite. With Untappd, you’ll never have to worry about what brewery to try next or if they’ll have a beer you like. Next time you’re traveling to a new town, be sure to open Untappd to see what’s brewing nearby. And who knows? There could be a local brewery that you’ve been missing out on!
