The History

Long Acre Farms is a fourth-generation farm that planted its roots in the Macedon, New York, area in the 1920s. Following the construction of their farm market in 1993, the farm has evolved and adapted greatly. Over the years, they have since added a pond, a breezeway, an ice cream shop with expanded deck, a pavilion (which was later converted into their current restaurant), a play area, a barrel room, a tasting room, an event space, solar panels, a food trailer, and so much more. Since their very beginning, the family of owners has greatly enjoyed welcoming guests to their farm.

JD Wine Cellars opened in 2010 and began producing small, handcrafted batches of, red, white, and 100% fruit wines. They grow their own Marquette grapes on one-half acre for their Estate Rose. Any additional grapes and juices are sourced from farmers within New York state, primarily in the Finger Lakes region. For both the farm and the winery, each year brings about new changes and challenges, and constant innovation and adaptation has allowed the farm to remain at the forefront of agricultural entertainment.

The Business Today

Today, Long Acre Farm and JD Wine Cellars continues to successfully operate one of the oldest agritourism farms in New York State. The Farm Market, Ice Cream Shop and play areas are open seasonally from between May and October. Meanwhile, the winery tasting room is open from April through December.

The extensive farm market features in-season produce and many unique and delicious food items. These include jams, sauces, dressings, soups, baked goods, cheeses, and more. Meanwhile, the gift shop features many fun gift items. The ice cream shop serves both hard, soft and vegan ice cream, with many different options such as cones, shakes, sundaes, and flurries.

In addition, JD Wine Cellars tasting room features reds, whites and one-hundred-percent fruit wines. They also sell local beer and spirits to suit a variety of palates. Throughout the year, they host a variety of special events, including private events such as weddings and parties.

I stayed at Long Acre Farms in May 2021 as my first Harvet Hosts visit. The owners are friendly and very accommodating to guests, whether Harvest Host or simply those stopping by for a wine tasting or to visit the farm. HUGE play area for kids. There was a pizza party the night I was there complete with live music. This is a “must see” location if you’re visiting the Rochester NY area.
