Touring Frascone Winery

Harvest Hosts is an amazing RV membership program with a large network of available hosts. So far, 4862+ locations have opened their hearts and their homes and/or businesses to members of the Harvest Hosts RVing community. Through this program, members receive overnight accommodations with no camping fees in peaceful and serene places across North America. In return, members are asked to make a purchase to patronize the small business that hosts them. Of these Hosts, Frascone Winery in Anahuac, Texas is particularly special. Here you can learn all about the winery’s history, its origins within the Harvest Hosts community, and what future visitors can expect to experience.

The History

Frascone Winery was opened in 2003 by Jim Frascone and Kathy Tran. Unfortunately in 2008, Hurricane Ike destroyed the property. But they didn’t let that get them down. In 2014, they were able to rebuild their winery across the street from the old location. They held a grand re-opening on August 31, 2014 with over 100 people attending. They’ve been going strong ever since. In 2015, Jim took up beekeeping to produce honey for mead, which is a honey-based wine.

The Business Today

Jim is the main winemaker at Frascone winery, and they produce several varieties. They offer several types of red wines, white wines, fruit-based wines, and meads. All varieties of their wines and meads have won local awards. Jim is very passionate about wine making and states, “I have enjoyed making wine since a very young age with my grandfather. As life moved on I became an engineer, but I still keep my wine making craft alive. As I got closer to retirement, I knew that wine making was my passion.”

The owners attempt to source as many of their ingredients from Texas as possible. Roughly seventy percent of their grapes are Texas-grown. The fruits for their fruit-based wines come from a New York company that produces freshly-squeezed juices not from concentrate.

The winery is also home to a reservations-only bistro. Jim prepares mainly Italian courses, and Kathy prepares Vietnamese cuisine, and both are available to order. They also offer tours of their winery to any visitors.

Visiting as a Harvest Hosts Member

As an RVer himself, Jim strives to make his guests feel welcome. They began hosting RVs in November 2019 and have, since then, hosted dozens of RVers. Jim’s favorite part of being a host is meeting all the different folks that come through the area. He enjoys hearing stories that RV owners have about life on the road. Harvest Hosts members are welcome to visit their shop or participate in curbside pickup during the COVID-19 pandemic. They have three spaces available to RVs under forty-four feet in length, and pets are welcome. They offer full hookup sites for an additional $15 per night.
