Touring Twisted Lane Candles
Harvest Hosts is a unique RV membership program with a large network of available hosts. So far, 4847+ locations have opened their hearts and their homes and/or businesses to members of the Harvest Hosts RVing community. Through this program, members receive overnight accommodations with no camping fees in unique and peaceful places across North America. In return, members must make a purchase to support the small business that hosts them. Of these Hosts, Twisted Lane Candles is particularly inviting. Here, you can learn all about this business’s history, its operations today, its origins within the Harvest Hosts community, and what future visitors can expect to experience.
The History
Twisted Lane Candles began as a hobby in 2017 and quickly turned into a profitable business for the owner, Tabitha. “My husband – the handsome half of the partnership who lifts the heavy things – smelled a candle he loved in a store in Louisiana. It was a scent he had never come across in a candle before, but the candle was $35. Incredulity struck, and he asked me to make him one that didn’t cost that much. That began our candle making journey. It quickly spiraled out of control and here we are, today.”
Twisted Lane Candles prides themselves on creating no-frills, yet incredibly unique candles. Not only do their scents like ‘Pipe Tobacco and Bourbon’ and ‘Motor Oil’ bring a uniqueness, but the process and materials do, as well. The candles they create have no dyes, are made in reusable jars, and are made with a wooden wick. Tabitha points out that the wooden wicks crackle when they burn and create a larger flame, which wastes less wax.
The Business Today
The candle business quickly took off. People loved the affordable, quality scents that are familiar, yet unique. These types of scents can even make customers nostalgic or trigger certain memories. ‘Woodsmoke and Coffee’ smells like waking up early in the morning on a camping trip to fresh coffee and a campfire. ‘Mud’ smells like childhood memories of playing in the forbidden mud puddle or walking through your family’s garden after a rainstorm. ‘Pier and Beam’ smells like the first day of walking into the summer cabin you used to visit as a child. Don’t just take our word for it – come smell the candles for yourself.
Joining Harvest Hosts
Like many small businesses, Twisted Lane Candles’ world was rocked hard by Covid-19. They could no longer attend craft shows or trade shows. Finally, in November 2020, they joined Harvest Hosts. “We had to pivot to a different direction. In the time since, we have been doing Harvest Hosts, we have been able to make up the difference of the effects of COVID.”, Tabitha stated. Since then, they’ve had a handful of members come to visit their welcoming location. Harvest Hosts members love to be greeted by the on-site dogs. Another favorite? Smelly Jellies. Smelly Jellies are gel air fresheners in a little tin container. They not only release a scent, but absorb bad odors too. RVers love having a natural, quality air freshener that requires no power or flame.
