Visiting the Flying I Bison Ranch
Harvest Hosts is a unique RV membership program with a large network of available hosts. So far, 4863+ locations have opened their hearts and their homes and/or businesses to members of the Harvest Hosts RVing community. Through this program, members receive overnight accommodations with no camping fees in peaceful and serene places across North America. In return, members are asked to make a purchase to patronize the small business that hosts them. Of these Hosts, Ireland Museum & Flying I Bison Ranch are rather unique. Here you can learn all about the museum’s history, its origins within the Harvest Hosts community, and what future visitors can expect to experience.
The History
In 1996, Larry and Beverly Ireland opened the Flying I Bison Ranch. Since then, they have owned and raised bison in the southern region of Saskatchewan. Later on, the Irelands began building a place to display the antiques they had accumulated over many years. This passion resulted in an antique village with ten buildings, which is now part of the experience of visiting the ranch. The museum features Canadian artifacts and many odd and unusual items from around the world.
The Business Today
Today, Bev and Larry Ireland continue to raise bison on their Saskatchewan property, which is located just twelve miles north of the North Dakota-Canada border. They package and sell all sorts of bison meats. These include ground meats, jerky, sausages, steaks, such as ribeye, sirloin, and top of round steak, and so much more. They also run a bakery table with all sorts of goodies, such as homemade muffins and breads. In addition to the museum, baked goods, and ranch, guests can find a garden, a patio, and a gift shop.
When asked what they love most about running their business, Bev Ireland responded, “The best part is meeting interesting people from many parts of the country. We love preserving items from the past and showing them to our guests.”
Joining Harvest Hosts
The Irelands began hosting RVers through Harvest Hosts in August 2019 because they have lots of space and wanted to share the beauty of the prairies that they call home. They typically expect members to tour the museum and tour the bison ranch to learn more about their animals and way of life. They are a friendly and welcoming family and want every visitor to enjoy the experience on their ranch. Currently, they have five pet-friendly spaces available to RVs of any size.
Ireland Museum and Flying I Bison Ranch is a unique Harvest Hosts location in south-central Canada, just miles from the US border. Consider stopping for a tour and some meat on your next trip through the area.
