The History
Stick and Rudder Public House was established in the memorable year that was 2020. The Pub is located in a historic building in the quaint bayside community of Fair Haven, NY. The name "Stick and Rudder" comes from the aviation term referring to the basic flying skills of a pilot. The name itself has both an aviation and nautical context. The pub interior reflects that theme with original nautical paintings, aviation pictures, and a veteran's memorial wall. The owner is a former Marine aviator and lifelong sailor, hence the origin of the name.
The Business Today
Just about a year after opening, Stick and Rudder Public House continues to serve great craft beers, original cocktails, and light fare in a comfortable setting in downtown Fair Haven, New York. Despite opening in 2020, the business has thrived and welcomed guests from all over. Many enjoy gathering here with friends to share sea stories and memories over fantastic drinks. Fair Haven itself is a quaint waterfront community on Little Sodus Bay off of Lake Ontario that comes alive in the summer. They are open from Friday through Sunday in April and May with extended summer hours which include Thursdays. In addition to offering craft beer (available in a draft, growler, or canned and bottled beer), cocktails, wine, seltzers, and food, they also sell t-shirts and feature occasional live music. Their beer menu features beer options such as Pilsners, Kolsches, Lagers, ales, sours, ciders, porters, and IPAs, while their food menu offers bread, charcuterie, appetizers, scones, sandwiches, dips, sliders, soup, and more. In the future, they plan to open an outdoor bocce court.
Joining Harvest Hosts
Like many of our awesome hosts, Stick and Rudder Public House joined the Harvest Hosts program in summer of 2021. The cozy setting allows guests to park on Fair Haven’s Main Street within walking distance of several quaint shops and Little Sodus Bay, off of Lake Ontario. There is also a state park and a nature park within minutes with beach access and hiking trails. Currently, they offer two pet-friendly spaces for RVs under thirty-five feet in length.
