Update 4/20/24: Please check https://www.cotrip.org/home. Highway 50 has been closed west of Gunnison at Blue Mesa lake for emergency bridge work and this is expected to last for quite some time. Also, there will be major road construction between Poncha Springs and Maysville this summer. This may impact access to our property later but has not affected us yet. We have highway access and several mostly-level parking spots on our small acreage surrounded by much larger ranches. The highway can be busy during the day, but it is usually very quiet at night. Monarch Ski area is within 20 miles. Poncha Springs is the closest community, for minor shopping and some dining. Downtown Salida is 6 miles away. There are several breweries, wineries and a distillery. Outdoor activities in Chaffee County include river-related (fishing & rafting), hiking the numerous peaks, mountain biking, 4-wheeling, and general sightseeing. Municipal water and a pay dump station are at the Poncha Springs Visitor Center.

House Rules

Please arrive after 9:00 am and before sunset (not dark). If you will be arriving before or after 3:00, please message us with a time to expect you. We will get you settled into your spot and then you may come and go as you please. Limit generator use and do not run them at night after 10:00 pm or before 8:00 am (exceptions are made for very quiet units). We live in an area where fire danger can be very high and burn bans are in effect frequently. No smoking and ask before cooking outdoors. Be mindful of children and pets. We do have electrified fencing wire on our property to protect landscaping from deer and other wildlife. It is not dangerous, but the shock can be startling if touched. Please don't climb on fences and gates. The weather can change quickly and this area can get extremely windy with little notice. Secure loose items and awnings if you will be away.

Location

Initial check-in is preferred at 3:00 pm but MUST be between 9:00 am and actual SUNSET time (not dark!). If you will arrive earlier or later than 3:00, PLEASE send a message and let us know so we can greet you and direct you to a parking place. Paved highway access and gravel drive. Parking is gravel or packed dirt with some grassy areas. Our spots are back-in. There should be plenty of room for tow vehicle parking. We don't usually answer telephone calls, but are typically very prompt if you contact us through the BW messaging system.

We are Kevin and Gerri from Colorado. Our current RV is a fully self-contained Lance truck camper with one slide (and full dry bath) that we've upgraded to better fit our lifestyle, including a large lithium battery bank and solar array so we don't have to run our noisy generator. We often flat-tow a 2-door jeep because we only remove our camper from the truck when we are at our own home. Our two very social, yet generally quiet, German Shorthaired Pointers have a lot of energy so we make a lot of stops at dog parks. We generally do most of our traveling in the "off" season and stay home during the summer, giving us plenty of time to act as hosts. We've learned a lot through hosting and enjoy meeting new friends!

We were met as we pulled in and assisted to one of the camp spots. Had great little visit with the hosts after we got positioned and then enjoyed a comfortable overnight stay with minimal road noise and a terrific view.

Flat driveway, lots of space to maneuver, very clear instructions and perfectly situated for skiijg at Monarch and enjoying downtown Salida! Bonuses: cute pups, fresh eggs, and listening to the owls in the evenings. Thanks Gerri and Kevin!
