Hello! We are two retired folk who live on the ridge of hill on the north side of Lake Superior. We have done extensive travelling, which includes time spent in Africa, SE Asia, and Europe. Our property is ten miles from Canal Park, five driving miles from the North Shore Scenic Highway. We live in a township just outside Duluth on 3 1/2 acres. We have great views of Lake Superior. Our friends find our house a great place to stay before venturing into the BWCAW. You can leave our house and be in the BWCAW paddling two hours later. Suggested Local Attractions:North Shore of Lake Superior, Canal Park/Aerial Lift Bridge, Park Point, Lake Superior Hiking Trail, Duluth Mountain Transverse Biking trails, Lester Park, Hartley Nature Center

House Rules
Pets okay but keep them leashed for their safety. Our road isn't busy but it is 40 mph. Would prefer non smokers. Quiet hours 10 pm to 7 am.
Location
Access Road Conditions: Our road is paved. Our driveway is just below the crest of the hill on a 45mph road. For trailers other than very small types (teardrop, etc...), you would have to back into the driveway. Please refer to photos. We can stop traffic for you. We would need to know when you are arriving. For this reason our location would be best for small RVs, vans and very small trailers (teardrop). There is water and power available if needed. Guests are welcome to use the gazebo and deck, both of which provide great views of the Lester River valley and Lake Superior. At the top of our hill is a nice field where you can excercise a pet. The field is not fenced. Tow Vehicle Parking Details: We live in a township paved road. No parking on the road is possible.

Guest profile: We are Cole and Ruthann with our Labrador Retriever, Hiker. We are from Duluth, MN. We had an RV for about 9 years and have recently downsized to an Overlander trailer with a hard shell roof top tent. We have a porta potty with us and a 'potty tent'. While we aren't fully self contained we are fully self sufficient and respectful. As hosts ourselves, we understand what it means to be good guests and leave no trace. Typically as a guest we would be just requesting for one night on travel days. Hope you'll consider us as guests as we travel through your area. For BW guests: We're Cole and Ruthann, recently retired and live just outside of Duluth. We live 'on top of the hill' with a great view of the Lake. Our location is best for RVs and vans that are less than 25 feet. No travel trailers as backing into our driveway with a trailer can be tricky. Two night stays okay. Home Town: Duluth MN is our hometown. Favorite Boondocking Locations: We love the Fish and Wildlife spots of Montana. We also love the Superior National Forest boondocking areas of around Finland MN, camping north of Ely, the Sawbill Trail, etc.... Skills or Expertise to Share: As a Duluth natives we can give all sorts of tips about recreating in the area. We are avid wilderness canoeists and have paddled many parts of the BWCAW/Quetico. There are trailheads to the Lake Superior Hiking Trail within five miles of our house.

Ruthann and Cole are the definition of perfect hosts. Warm and friendly, they recommended an itinerary for us to follow which will take us into next week. We sincerely hope that our paths will cross again.

We were so happy to meet this lovely host. We'd be great friends if we lived closer. The site was perfect for us to visit our daughter nearby. Ours unit is a teardop and the space terrific. Cool lake air made great open air sleeping. Great waypoint as we returned from a short camping vacation that included a lot of fun and relaxing activities. Thanks so much!

Really enjoyed meeting Ruth Ann & Cole. Excellent hosts & they took the time to tell us all the great things to do along the Lake Superior north shore drive. Would definitely stay here again.
