I have 18 acres off of Loop 7 in Athens, and it is gated. My home is at a popular crossroads for people traveling across Texas or those visiting Canton First Mondays. I am 40 minutes from Tyler State Park and 20 minutes from Purtis Creek State Park. Canton is a nearby town that hosts the very popular Canton First Mondays giant flea market. There is a brewery in the City of Athens that is a fun visit, as well as the Texas Freshwater Fisheries Center and the East Texas Arboretum. Athens also has a WalMart or Tractor Supply if you need things like that. I have water, but I can no longer offer electricity. I do not have a dump station, but there is a RV park about 3 miles away that allows you to dump there for a $10 fee. It is called Lake Athens Marina & RV Park. If you want to check your tire pressures or top off for the rest of your trip, let me know as you're welcome to use my compressor, just let me know. Please note, I am close to Loop 7 that goes around Athens, so there is road noise from that depending on how many semi-trucks might be passing through that night. Some have commented on it, others did not notice much - but I do want you to be aware of that. I did have an outbreak of sand burs (stickers) in the grass around the area last year. It has been treated so they won't spread, but the ones that grew are still around in various amounts, in the grass. It just takes time for those to work themselves out - but please be aware of walking a dog or barefoot kids or something, you may be pulling stickers out of feet. I do offer electric, but there is only one parking spot that can access it. If your request is on top of somebody else's, I'll be sure to let you know if there is a conflict there and you won't have access to it.

House Rules

Trash and recycling can be thrown away in our trash containers at the front entrance. Dogs should stay on leashes unless you are 100% positive they won't run away from you. My neighbors in the distance have chickens and there is a small highway nearby, either of which would not be a good for off leash zoomy dogs, please watch them.

Location

I have several options on my property. The easiest is a large paved parking area at the front.

Age:

30-45

I grew up in Grapevine, Texas and now live in the East Texas area. I have been RVing with my wife for about 8 years, nothing full-time but many weekender trips to state parks and a few 2-week long trips around the US. My favorites so far are Durango CO and Myrtle Beach SC. I typically travel with 2 well-behaved dogs, no kids.

Good place to stop if you just need some sleep and you're tired enough not to care about the highway noise. The trucks go all night, but i slept through most of it.

Second Visit to Van Horn while passing through. Tyler was out of town so Maggie met us and showed us where to park. Very nice place for an overnight.

We had a medical issue during our stay; our host offered additional nights' stays if needed. They have a very impressive solar charging and battery system. This was our third stay with this host. We like Athens.
