If you are a HOST, let us know when making a request (even if we show busy) - we will bend over backwards for hosts. We own a 2 acre lot with a large "commercial building" on it that was built to contain our RVs. The commercial building and associated RV parking has multiple power options. No sewer facilities at this time. Our residence is on 100% water collection - we have no well, city water, or any other source for our water. We do ask that guests are reasonable about water consumption and make ABSOLUTELY sure that all hoses and fittings do not leak. Suggested Local Attractions: We are about 5 minutes away from Volente water park - which is a great (low cost) water park for kids and adults. This water park also offers lake access. We are one public access Lake Travis park - Cypress Creek Park which provides shore access and a boat ramp. Other parks nearby are Hippie Hollow and Sandy Creek. We are < 10 minutes away from the Oasis on Lake Travis where sunsets are the specialty. I will be here to get you parked and prefer to communicate (once booked) through TEXT so you'll have my attention. Please be respectful of our time via keeping an accurate appointment of when you'll land here... Changes in plans - we all deal with those, just communicate them, we need to be present to get you parked.

House Rules

Here are our Rules that we've learned as hosts: * We will not accept guests that do not have full profile information (you're staying at our home). We respect your privacy, but limited profiles give us pause. Yes, we need a photo of you and your rig - basically to make sure that you're the party that made the reservation. No, we won't negotiate. Yes, we realize you may be in witness protection or have a secret identity. * We no longer accept package deliveries. Sorry. Blame guests that couldn't keep it "reasonable". * I have kids. I have dogs. Keep the kids and dogs on our property (almost 2 acres). * We ask that you stay on our property unless traveling to/from the campsite via car. Everything here is private property (including the road) and we're respectful of our neighbors. Please don't walk our neighborhood past 9pm - it's very safe, we just don't want to be responsible for getting the attention of the neighbors. * There are "off leash" dogs in the area that we do not control. We ask that your pets be well behaved socially with other animals and other humans. If they are not, please limit their time outside of your RV and let us know that your pet doesn't care for interaction. * Our property is subject to "burn ban" at any time and has a substantial amount of trees, so please talk to us first about having a fire in our fire ring and how we can do that properly. * We are non-smokers. If you smoke, we expect all evidence of smoking to be property disposed of. * We leave all sites in the same condition or better than how we found them, we expect the same.

Location

We have 100% covered parking for most small rigs (vans, sprinters, etc). And we have a covered space on an improved surface (rock). Or place is private, your rig can't be seen from the main road and we are on a "private drive". Our private drive is an up-slope, which may cause large rigs to drag in rear, so please contact us if you have anything approaching 30' or have had clearance issues in back. I will be here to get you backed in, so please provide me an ETA on your arrival 24 hours in advance. If it changes, just update us.

Age:

45-55

Hobbiest, handiman, pilot, and engineer (she's a musician) Details: I'm a working (non-retired) engineer. Most of my work is at a desk, but I'm also pretty capable handyman, pilot, and have had lots of hobbies (perhaps too many). I've owned a bunch of RVs ranging from truck campers to 40' 5th wheel toy haulers and most things in between. I have a wonderful spouse who has been a professional musician and still actively sings in a local band. We enjoy wine, beer, and socializing as our schedules allow. Our profile picture is a bit playful, we're both working professionals, but keep it Austin "weird" every now and then. We've spent the last 2-3 years focused on build our home and property, but enjoy the water quite a bit, do Austin music things, and are fairly social when not working. I've owned all sorts of RVs, Class-A, Class-C, 5th wheel, and recently we've downsides to a truck camper, which allows us to do more frequent short trips. Home Town: We've been in Austin for more than 20 years. We often spend 2-4 weeks per year in Michigan (near Traverse City) and avoid some of the Texas summer. I grew up in both Texas and Michigan. I lived in Lago Vista for more than 10 years and I'm very familiar with Lake Travis. We live in NW Austin, near Volente. Technically we're just outside the city limits of Austin, which affords us the ability to do things with our property (like install RV hookups). Favorite Boondocking Locations: I've built 2 homes from raw land - those generally start as long term boondocking adventures with a generator and large water tank. Mobile boondocking I have not done a lot of. Favorite locations here (on Lake Travis) - Muleshoe Bend and Turkey bend. Skills or Expertise to Share: I'm pretty familiar with RV construction, most RV systems, and repairs/maintenance. I'm generally considered a handyman (not what I do for a living). I'm familiar with most residential systems and have done substantial work in residential electrical and 12V RV/marine/auto electrical. I work full time - and my time is pretty limited, but happy to "take a look" or give advice where appropriate. I am into "green" and "off grid" technologies. I've installed several residential solar systems, our current home is 100% rain water collection, and is setup to function for weeks without utilities. I've been involved with aviation for more than 30 years. I'm licensed to fly planes, high performance planes, float planes, and gliders. I've also flown gyrocopters and helicopters.

We stayed with Darrin and Colleen for 3 nights. This was the perfect location for us to visit and explore Austin and the Lake Travis area. They are amazing hosts. We experienced some extreme weather and they allowed us to park under cover and made sure we were okay. We were lucky enough to catch Colleen and her band on a practice day and got to enjoy an hour long concert by a great cover band! Our last night, we were invited up to their home and enjoyed some wine and great conversation. The location, 30 amp hookup, water and wifi couldn't have been better. You do need to be careful pulling into their private road as the incline is a bit tricky. It was fine for our sprinter van, but larger rigs need to be aware. By far, one of our favorite boondocker locations and look forward to returning someday. Truly, the kindest people we've met.

Darrin greeted us, showed us our spot, and got us settled in. We had 30 amp hook up, he would not take any money. He was extremely understanding and flexible when we needed to stay an extra day due to car trouble. Darrin is a very interesting person to talk to, with many interests. The area is beautiful.

Beautiful spot with good service. Easy to find and great communication. The hosts were super nice and greeted us upon arrival. The awning is great for the Texas heat. There is a part coming in where you might scrape on the hills but it's nothing too crazy. We would stay here again. Thank you :)
